Doug began writing in 1995 and sold his first story, "Spirit Dance," to the Canadian anthology, Tesseracts6, in 1996. Since then, he has sold over ninety stories to professional magazines and anthologies in twenty-six countries, including Baen's Universe, InterZone, The Third Alternative, Best New Horror, Weird Tales, Amazing Stories, Cicada, On Spec, Oceans of the Mind, and Prairie Fire, as well as anthologies from Penguin/Roc, DAW, Meisha Merlin, Tesseract Books, and others. He was a finalist for the international John W. Campbell Award for best new writer, and has twice won the Aurora Award (2001 and 2004) for best SF&F short fiction by a Canadian.He has been an Aurora finalist eleven times and have been selected for several honourable mentions in The Year's Best Fantasy & Horror.
Doug's fiction has been translated
into twenty-two languages. He has used that experience to develop his Foreign
Market List, a popular resource for short fiction writers who wish to
submit to non-English markets around the world.
Doug is currently completing his first novel based on his
award-winning short story, "Spirit Dance." His first collection of short fiction,
Impossibilia, will be published in 2008 by the award-winning
UK press,
PS Publishing.
He lives just north of Toronto,
Ontario, Canada,
