Garrett W. Vance

Garrett W. Vance grew up in the wilds of rural Eastern Washington State, USA, devouring all things science fiction, fantasy and horror with an insatiable desire to experience strange new worlds. Once he realized that the chances of getting to space in his lifetime were slim to none he began a world tour that never really ends. His known super-powers include speaking Japanese, being a strong swimmer and the ability to locate bars and pubs with a preternatural accuracy. He is currently the art director of the Grantville Gazette and has been doing the cover art for Jim Baen's Universe since October 2008, gaining inspiration from the classic pulp art of the last century. Garrett's artwork has also accompanied Ben Bova's story Moon Race and his own novelette Riders of the Three-Toed Horse, which he is very pleased to note made the 2009 Locus Magazine Recommended Reading List. Garrett has taken on the job of art director for Jim Baen's Universe's final three issues, doing all the art himself for the final April 2010 issue, and mourns the end of such a wonderful publication. These days Garrett lives in Bangkok, Thailand with his very understanding wife Mochi, doing pretty much whatever he wants. Sometimes he remembers to update his blog, which can be found here.

Jennifer Miller

Jennifer Miller's artistic history started around the age of five, a crayon in one hand and her eye's glued on the children's movie "Flight of Dragons". Since then she has gotten a good bit taller, and has acquired a great deal more crayons. Raised in the foothills of western NY State, she spent most of her childhood roaming around the woods, playing with birds and lizards, and doing her best to draw them. She is immensely interested in the natural world around her and draws great inspiration from it. Currently, she lives on the east coast with her fiancé, three parrots, and a myriad of tropical fish. She still takes time to roam the woods whenever possible. The tools of the trade can be practically anything… from watercolors to oils, inks, graphite, acrylic; she even paints on bird feathers. She also enjoys working in a digital format and approaches the digital canvas as she would a real one, with simple painting fundamentals and minimal to no computer rendering. Lighting and atmosphere are her favorite parts of painting, with a particular emphasis on lighting. She has a particular fascination with flight and flighted creatures, and they are a reoccurring theme in her pieces. More of Jennifer's work can be seen at: http://featherdust.critter.net
